The Urbana Pops Orchestra Board is a volunteer organization that
supports the UPO (without doing any heavy lifting).
Activities of the guild include fund raising, ushering at
concerts, and maybe even initiating rhythmic clapping. If

A Word From the President
The Urbana Pops Orchestra guild learned a valuable lesson this
year - free concerts are not cheap. One of our goals from
the beginning has been to offer family-friendly concerts to the
community free of charge. But we learned quickly that even
a bare-bones production has big expenses.
For one thing, music that cannot be borrowed must be purchased -
and that's sheet music for 65 musicians, not a quartet. We
are extremely grateful that many of the professional and
semi-professional musicians are donating their incredible
talent. Those who aren't are receiving a much smaller
stipend than they could get playing in other ensembles.
Even still, it adds up.
Thanks to generous individuals and in-kind partnerships, we
succeeded in giving two free concerts this past summer in
Lincoln Square. We hope that by soliciting donations and
charging admission to our Holiday concert, we will be able to
offer a concert this summer for free.
So thank you so much for supporting Urbana Pops Orchestra - with
your help, we'll be able to provide high-quality, entertaining
concerts for everyone to enjoy.
