Beta Theta's Alumni Newsletter
Fraternity Education News
The
Beta Theta Chapter is coming off of an extremely successful term
last year, during which the chapter initiated a faculty member
and fellow Millikin Alumnus, Michael Engelhardt ‘96, as an
honorary member, as well as roughly doubling the size of the
chapter. Following this success, the chapter currently maintains
a Probationary Member class of six members. The group is
diverse, extremely talented, and encompasses several majors.
They are: Tim DiCarlo, Zach Kitson, Hongsup Lee, Kevin Macha,
Anthony Magaruh, and Joshua Taliaferro. The Chapter looks
forward to initiating these men as collegiate members in April.

Getting Involved as an Alumni Sinfonian
As professional musicians, educators, composers, or students, we
understand that you are busy and can’t always come back to your
Alma Mater to pay a visit. Here are some ways that you can get
involved as an alumnus.
1. Get in contact with a local chapter.
You may or may not be close to Millikin University, so instead
find a chapter at a local institution. Ask them for any events
that they may be having.
2. Be a part of Mills Music Missions. If
you have time, find out when the local chapter is going on a
Mills Music Mission. Ask to join if you wish.
3. Have Lunch with a Brother. Whether it
is with an alumnus or a collegiate member, you can use this time
to reflect on your Sinfonian experience.
4. Attend Rituals. Feel free to contact
your local chapter or Alma Mater about Ritual dates. We would
love for you to join us.
5. Go to a Chapter Meeting. If you are
around, feel free to come to a Chapter Meeting. Contact a local
chapter to find out when they meet.
6. Contact the Chapter. We would love to
hear what you have been doing. Send us an email or letter and
tell us what you have been up to.
7. Meet with the Chapter. If you are in
the area, set up a time to meet with the chapter and maybe share
your Sinfonian experiences with us. The Alumni Relations
Officer is the liaison between the chapter and the alumni.
Contact him to set up a time.
8. Keep in Contact with Lyrecrest. At
www.sinfonia.org, you can
update your addresses to allow the National Fraternity to keep
you informed of national events. All you have to do is log in
to MyDesktop using your member number and password (by default
the password is your birthdate). If your member number is
unknown, all you will need is your name and initiating chapter
to find it.
9. Attend the National Convention. This
year is the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
National Convention.
It is in Orlando, Florida on July 15-19. Plan your summer
vacation around this event and get to meet brothers from all
across the nation.

From the Alumni Relations Officer
Hello,
As the recently elected Alumni Relations Officer of the Beta
Theta Chapter, it is my goal to reconnect with our alumni

This newsletter includes a calendar of events in the Beta Theta
Chapter as well as some articles discussing our Probationary

feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions
regarding events, suggestions for events, ideas for the
newsletter, or if you would just like to get reconnected with
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I can be reached by email at

Alumni Relations Officer
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Beta Theta Chapter
From the former President
Dear
Brothers of the Black and Red,
As the semester comes to a close, the Beta Theta chapter at
Millikin University finds itself in new and capable hands. One
of the goals of the chapter is to reconnect with the alumni to
enrich both the experience of the collegiate members, future
members, and of course you, the alumni. The Brotherhood of Phi
Mu Alpha Sinfonia at Millikin University wishes to extend this
newsletter as a way to reconnect the past with the present. In
the words of Brother Mills:
“To all of us humans the future is a closed book, except that we
know it as a continuation of the present, just as the present
flows out of the past. We, therefore, can speak of the Sinfonia
of the future only in terms of what has been.”
Fraternally,
Louis E. Kappler ‘10
President
