Information for New Members

Welcome
to
Aikido!
Aikido is unlike other martial arts you may
have studied - it uses a defensive approach in more of a
self-defense style than karate or tae kwon do. We learn
ways to continue energy instead of deflect it, to use as little
effort as possible to incapacitate an attacker.

As a new member, you'll take the Beginner
class, which meets in the Old Gym dance studio. Just enter
through the Griswold parking lot side, and go up the steps to
the second floor. Make sure to bow when entering the dojo.

Dojo Etiquette
When you come to class for the first time,
you'll:
1. Receive a copy of our Dojo Rules. You
can also download the brochure
here.
2. Be asked to sign a waiver. This is just
in case anything happens, Millikin will not be held responsible.
Some important things to remember about our dojo
(or classroom)... be on time, no food or gum, and come with an open
mind. Also, bowing is an important part of what we do - it is
a sign of respect to the class, to your classmates, and to your
instructor. Bowing when entering the dojo is considered
appropriate.
